2012 Oscars: Who Takes Our Pick For the Best Dressed?

The Oscars pretty much dwarfs all other runway shows and red carpets. Why? Compared to runways during fashion week, you’ll see how women of different shapes and sizes make the dress work (or not). As for the other red carpet events, well, the Oscars rake in the biggest and most successful names in the industry. Imagine all the great actors and actresses, both veterans and newcomers, wearing designers of their choice. In fact, it is when you’re worn to the Oscars that gets you recognized in the fashion industry as a force to deal with.

This year’s red carpet definitely did not disappoint. There were hits, misses, and talks of the town like Jennifer Lopez’s wardrobe malfunction and Sacha Baron Cohen’s extremely inappropriate getup. Nevertheless, they were merely entertaining. For now, let’s see who wore the best dresses (in our opinion) this year. It is, after all, the world’s most prestigious and notoriously unforgiving runway.

5. Angelina Jolie
It’s hard to imagine Angelina Jolie in a bad dress. Come to think of it, it’s hard to imagine her in a bad outfit altogether. Being the sultry vixen that she is, she wore this black velvet Atelier Versace number with a slit that went all the way up there. It was sexy, especially when she wore it with bold, red lips.

4. Michelle Williams
Well now, Michelle Williams really knows how to play with color. While her canary yellow Vera Wang gown in the 2006 Oscars made it to history’s best dresses of all time, we think that this strapless Louis Vuitton coral gown pretty much elevates her status to red carpet icon.

3. Shailene Woodley.
Very few dresses with sleeves are remembered during red carpets. Maybe it’s because of the conservative factor, but Shailene Woodley managed to drive past the most discriminating eyes at the red carpet. At 20, this young star chose a long-sleeve Valentino Couture gown with crochet details. While stars in her age bracket choose to show off some skin, legs, and cleavage for red carpet events, “The Descendants” star chose her dress wisely. The crochet detail is a sexy peek amid the conservative silhouette. The best part about it- it’s chic, classy, and of course elegant. At a young age, she shows great promise in becoming one of the most-awaited red carpet dressers.

2. Jessica Chastain
We all know that black is a safe color. While Angelina Jolie and Tina Fey opted to go for simple black dresses, Jessica Chastain went a little bit further (and we like that she did). Her Oscar debut will forever be marked with this black and gold Alexander McQueen dress which definitely is an eye-catching number.

1. Mila Jovovich
Mila Jovovich’s Oscar debut as a host will always be remembered with the help of this stunning Ellie Saab gown. The silver paillette details are such a sight. It also helped that Mila Jovovich was as stunningly beautiful as her gown, but really? Red lips, wavy hair, well-defined eyes, Ellie Saab wonder gown-who doesn’t love this ensemble?
